Johann B. Peters 1873-1954

Johann B. Peters - 1873-1954

Johann B. Peters was born June 11, 1873, to Johann Peters and Justina Boldt. He came to Canada with his parents from Russia on the S.S. Sarmatian. This ship arrived in Quebec City on July 6, 1875. He settled with his parents in the village of Schoenfeld, Manitoba.

He married Katharina Braun on Aug. 14, 1892. She was born March 17, 1866 to Johann Braun and Sara Klassen. Three children were born to this marriage before her death on Jan. 18, 1898.

Johann remarried on March 24, 1898, to Anna Hildebrand. She was born Aug. 9, 1879, the daughter of Isaac Hildebrand and Anna Klassen. Her parents came to Canada from Russia on the S.S. Peruvian on June 30, 1878. They then moved to Blumenhoff, Man.

Johann Peters and his family moved to Reinfeld Sask. (north of Hague) in 1897. He took up a homestead NWl6 41 3 W of 3rd.

In 1897, he broke 5 acres and cropped 0; in 1898, he broke 15 acres and cropped 5; in 1899 he broke 16 acres and cropped 20; in 1900, he broke 21 acres and cropped 36.

In 1900, he owned 3 head of cattle, 5 horses and 2 pigs.

In 1897, he built a house in the village of Reinfeld, 16 x 30 valued at $75. He also built a stable and dug a well, valued at $100.

When many in the Old Colony Church began to move to Mexico, the Johann Peters family also moved. They migrated to Mexico in 1924 but returned in 1929. They then moved to the village of Blumenheim, east of Osler. Johann died Jan. 18, 1954, and his wife Anna on Feb. 2, 1955. Children of the Peters stere reside in the Osler area.
