The Great Trek Tour with John Sharp

Tour Dates: May 23 - June 3, 2010

Follow your Mennonite brothers and sisters on the trail to freedom along the legendary Silk Road. Join history professor, John Sharp whose passion and knowledge of the Great Trek will give you insight into this chapter of the Mennonite story, as you travel through splendid landscape and culture.

Delight in the splendours of Istanbul and Bukhara while catching a glimpse of the many cultures that collide in Uzbekistan;

Drive along the most famous trading route in the world, while learning newly-discovered details about the Mennonite experience on this route through letters, journals, and documents of the trekkers;

Enjoy the uncommon hospitality of the people of Serabulak, who also offered welcome to our ancestors, and see the lasting Mennonite influences as you listen to the villagers of Ak Metchet.

Pilgrims on the Silk Road - by Walter R. Ratliff

Walter R. Ratliff, who has done considerable research into the era and journey of the Mennonites' Great Trek on the Silk Road of Asia, has now produced a book that will be of great interest to those who have roots to ancestors on that original Trek.
