Historical sketch

Box 387, Hanley, SK, S0G 2E0. (306) 544-2722. Located nine miles west of Hanley. Margaret Ewen Peters and Gary Peters served in 2002 as congregational leaders. In 1975 there were 102 members; in 1985, 111; in 1995, 94; in 2000, 98. The congregation has been affiliated with Mennonite Church Saskatchewan, Conference of Mennonites in Canada / Mennonite Church Candaa (1925-) and General Conference Mennonite Church (1926-1999). The language of worship is English and German; the transition from German occurred in the 1960s.

The congregation began services in 1924, and formally organized in 1925. The first building was occupied in 1929, with a subsequent building program in 1956. Johann J. Klassen is considered the founding leader of the group. The congregation originated through immigration from the Soviet Union.

Hanley was formerly part of the Nordheimer church group.

The Hanley Mennonite Church fonds consists of the annual church meeting minutes, financial records, and cemetery records from the beginning of church until 2002.
