Peter Wiebe 1861-1949![]() Peter Wiebe, was born July 17, 1861, to Martin Wiebe and Helena Hamm. He came to Canada with his parents on the S.S. Polynesian. This ship arrived in Quebec City on July 6, 1879. They then settled at Osterwich, Manitoba. He married Helena Bergen on June 17, 1887. She was born Nov. 8, 1868. She had come to Canada with her parents, Isaac Bergen and Justina Reddekopp, on the S.S. Peruvian. This ship arrived in Quebec City on July 13, 1875. In 1880, they lived at Blumenort, Manitoba. Peter Wiebe moved to Saskatchewan in 1903 with, his family and took as his homestead NW 12-39-3-3, near Aberdeen. He purchased SW 25-39-3-3. This purchased quarter of land was one of the four quarters that made up the settlement of Olgafeld. It was here that he built a 20 x 36 lumber house and a stable 26 x 36, also built of lumber, together valued at $850. He also built another stable of lumber, 22 x 32', valued at $450. He also dug a well. On his homestead NW 12-39-3-3, he made the following improvements: In 1904, he broke 7 1/2 acres and cropped 3; in 1905, he broke 17 acres and cropped 24 1/2; in 1906, he broke 8 acres and cropped 32 1/2. In 1904, heowned 8 horses, 8 cattle and 5 pigs. Peter Wiebe died on Jail. 7,1949, and his wife on July 26,1948. The photograph was contributed by Jacob Wiebe, Warman, a son of the Wiebes.
